CUED SPEECH FOR AMERICAN ENGLISH

Learn Cued Speech: beginner lessons

Build a foundation in Cued Speech for American English with twelve lessons on sounds, handshapes, placements, and practice.

How to start learning Cued Speech

Begin with the three visual elements: a handshape, a placement or movement, and mouth information. Then connect the consonant and vowel sound groups to the chart. Cue choices follow sounds rather than spelling.

  1. Understand the complete cue. A handshape alone does not identify a single sound.
  2. Learn the eight handshape groups. Use example words to make each sound label concrete.
  3. Explore vowel placements and movements. Compare mouth, chin, throat, and side references.
  4. Check your understanding. Guided examples lead into independent questions. Return to practice as the material becomes familiar.

Four chapters, one foundation

The path moves from the big picture to handshapes, vowel information, and applying what you know across words. Each lesson has its own readable page and a link to the guided exercises. A passed knowledge check reflects lesson understanding, not a rating of physical cueing skill.
