LEARN CUED SPEECH FOR AMERICAN ENGLISH

How to Read a Cued Speech Chart

Read the handshape and placement sections of the chart.

LESSON 3 OF 12

Your objective

Read the handshape and placement sections of the chart.

Understand the idea

The chart has two parts: consonant handshapes and vowel placements and movements. The hand drawings identify eight shapes; the people show where placements and movement paths are located. A static chart cannot demonstrate the full timing and depth of natural cueing.

8 handshapes · placements · movements

Use the drawings as a reference, then learn coordinated movement with a skilled cuer.
