LESSON 10 OF 12
Your objective
Transfer a consonant sound across different spellings.
Understand the idea
When two words share a consonant sound, they use the same consonant handshape for that sound. The /f/ in “phone” and “fee” uses handshape 5. This does not mean the whole words share a cue sequence: their remaining sounds differ.
/f/ in phone = /f/ in fee
Compare sounds one at a time.
A connection to remember
“Phone” and “fee” share /f/, but the rest of their sounds differ.
Check the connection
Does a shared first sound mean two entire words use an identical cue sequence?
Show the answer
No, the remaining sounds can differ
“Phone” and “fee” share /f/, but the rest of their sounds differ.
